Mark Ferrell Cheap DJ

Southern California Wedding Reception DJ Pricing Explained:

1.  Less than $999.99?:

No.  Just don’t.  Run!  It’s 2017.  Everybody has heard (or seen) at least one “Mobile DJ Horror Story.”  Don’t let a cheap DJ rip you off!

2.  $999.99 to $1495:  Usually a beginner, a hobbyist, “part time,” or a “subcontractor/employee” from a larger, “Multi Operator” DJ company/Agency that rents out, er, “hires out” other DJs.

Be sure to ask:  Larger companies may, or may not “assign” you a specific DJ for your wedding date.  Get everything in writing.

They probably won’t have a lot of experience hosting and entertaining.  Training usually is minimal or basic…so is their planning, wedding etiquette skills, and event direction.

Most likely will be “adequate” as an announcer, but not a true Master of Ceremonies.  Music knowledge and programming is typically more “Standardized.”

Results for your celebration will vary from “Forgettable” to “Average” to maybe even, “Good Enough.”

3.  $2,000 +

Usually are full time, single operators, who are passionate and dedicated to their craft, and have many years of wedding experience.  They are confident (not arrogant, nor “cocky”) in their abilities, and many will stand by their promises with a “money back guarantee.”

They have advanced training, public speaking and (appropriate) humor skills, continue to learn and improve, and are able to collaborate with you for any personalized ideas.

Music selection, programming, and mixing are at professional levels, and their sound system looks and sounds amazing!

These DJs are able to create special, memorable moments (GOOD ones, not the bad ones that end up on YouTube!), and are at your service for questions, planning, and your overall “Peace of Mind.”

And, your celebration is going to be FUN!

4.  $1,000,000:  Tiesto, Vanilla Ice, Calvin Harris…

In every industry, there are exceptions to the rule.

Also, options and enhancements like ceremony services, uplighting, dance lighting, and photo booths, are sometimes available, or you could look for other companies that specialize in these services.

Not everyone gets to plan and host a wonderful celebration like you and your families are doing, so even though things might seem pretty hectic, good luck in your search, and be sure to enjoy the journey!

Sure, I have many “5 Star Reviews.”  …Just like many other Mobile DJs.

But then, sometimes a “5 Year Anniversary Thank You Note” arrives:

Nice photo of your dogs. Not sure our Tobey could sit still for that kind of a photo!
